The Billionaire Status ~ Joseph Addai Kusi

For as long as the world has been, men have adventured themselves on every and any enterprise to make themselves financially rich and more economically powerful. Any place in the world where there is a promise of making money, no matter how true or false will see hordes of people going there.

The San Francisco gold rush of 1849 saw the world turn its eye on a city, and its heart on its mines. Thousands of prospectors and investors went there to see where they could sample their share of the honey pot. There is the legend of El Dorado, a city fabled to be built entirely of gold, and the legend offers that explorers and travelers went over land and sea, and braved untold hardships to find this city only to discover that it was a gust of wind they were chasing- it didn’t exist!

The world has painted a picture of wealth and privilege and lured many to crave the life of European aristocrats, princes, American and Asian magnates, oil billionaire Arab sheikhs and Eastern European oligarchs. The world has spun an intricate web of lies encrusted in glamour and glitz. Many young people want to make a killing through some quick “deal” and then buy a Rolls Royce, a yacht, sail to Monaco or the Southern Coast of France and spend away.

The Bible has a lot to say about all these things. First of all, life is an invested option. You have to decide what your life is about and pursue it. Don’t just choose “a what” and figure out the “how.” You must above all understand “the why.” If you hear some of the reasons given by supposed rich money- chasing people as to why they chose that kind of life, you would be amazed. Vanity, vanity, vanity!

GET THIS: There is no teaching according to the Word of God or the New Testament that assures a Christian a “billionaire status.” It is simply not there! The Bible however promises God’s abundant and rich supply for every good work. I hear many teachings these days that want to bring John Wesley and Donald Trump to the same table, that want to make a man both Billy Graham and Bill Gates in one holy ministry to God. Take it from me on good authority; this is not the counsel of God. It may garner public praise and social success but it is not the way of God.

We want jets and billions to “preach the gospel” which is perfectly fine, but it seems D. L. Moody and John Wesley did ten times more spiritual work on horseback than we are doing with all our technology and money. If you want to do be a billionaire as a Christian, God can help you, but do not make it a ministry in itself.

Success in business or brilliance in entrepreneurial talent is commendable, but in itself, it is light years away from the Kingdom of God. You do not need one drop of any anointing or knowledge of any Scripture to be a billionaire. You do not even need to believe there is a God. You know I am right. Neither do you need to be a man of business to please God or have resources to do his will. Some of the holiest men with the largest and richest ministries in the world are men who have been warned not to touch business, and yet they have it all. God is all you need to have all your needs met.

When you see a billionaire or an extremely wealthy person, you must understand that it is a life he chose. By itself, it is fine. The only issue is why! If the why is wrong, they end up with ashes and gravel in their mouths at the end. Also, these are men who have learned their lessons and grown in the art of wealth creation- they did not get it quick!

I cannot spend my life for the sole purpose of making money, for its own sake. That is ungodly, wicked and life-wasting. I understand however that money is a fact of life, and I require a good lot of it to bring my God-given purpose to pass. If I spend the next thirty to forty years travelling the world cutting deals and prospecting in remote corners, at best, I will end up with one thing- Money. Lots of it, but that may just be all I end up with. Money!

Like most other people who want to live a great life, are well-read and aware of how the world works, I thought through the why and how of wealth. I learned some very important lessons. If you want to be financially robust, if only to help others and live a great life without wasting your life chasing money, you need to be a person who walks with God, seeks to please him and has a passion for his wisdom. This, you must pursue every day.

Secondly, you need to discover your calling, skill or career and get the best training or education possible in it. This could be in or out of an academic setting. You can learn a lot from books and from meeting the right people. After getting training and the right knowledge, always be sure to keep a passion for growth in your life. Never you let a day pass without reading something relevant to your work, asking questions or learning something new. The rich and wealthy are very curious people.

Thirdly as you grow and work, strive to be one of the best in your town, city, country or the world. With the right foundations in place and the right attitude, this is not as difficult as it may sound. Carry out your work with very high standards of excellence, value and performance. Endeavour to be an expert, an authority or a master in a field. This is one of the most time-tested ways to be rich. Whether you are lawyer, engineer, educator, pastor or a business person, get the right training, grow and be one of the best.

Also, develop a reputation for wisdom, integrity, reliability and competence. These four things are the tools you need to dig gold from the mine of life. Wisdom is supreme. If you develop it, others will court you. Integrity will preserve your relationships and keep you flying high; no one wants to be the friend of a snake. You must be reliable- the world must know you are the man they can call on, and you must be excellent at what you do.

Lastly and most importantly, create real relationships and honour them. Add value to these relationships and make sure to be a person others can count on in the same way you desire others you can count on. Build wealth in favour with others. Be an excited and willing partner in the success of others. If you do these five things over a long time, you will have more money than you’ll ever need, and far more than that- many things money can’t buy.

If you chase money for its own sake, you end up with nothing. You would just be another light-headed explorer on a voyage to El Dorado. It is wisdom that makes money, and that is what you must seek. Money does not make a man rich; wisdom does. If you lack these things, no matter how much you make, you will be poor nonetheless.
